Seiya Suzuki homers in a historic night for the Chicago Cubs, who blasted a franchise-record eight home runs in an 11-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday at Wrigley Field.
Suzuki Starts the Power Surge
The Japanese slugger opened the scoring with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs and a 2-2 count, Suzuki sent a Miles Mikolas sinker 413 feet over left-center field.
That marked his 24th home run of the season, continuing a strong campaign for the 30-year-old right-hander.
Cubs Go Deep Eight Times
In total, five Cubs players homered. Michael Busch led the charge with three blasts, followed by two from Pete Crow-Armstrong. Dansby Swanson and Carson Kelly also contributed one home run each.
The offensive explosion set a new single-game franchise record for the Cubs.
Suzuki Matches Personal Best
Although Suzuki finished 1-for-4 at the plate, his home run added to his impressive season stats. He now has 74 RBIs, tying the MLB lead and matching his career high from 2023.
In addition, he extended his own Major League record for most home runs in a season by a Japanese right-handed batter.
Cubs Riding Momentum
The win marked Chicago’s fourth straight victory. It came just a day after the team needed 10 innings to score a single run against the Cleveland Guardians.
Manager Craig Counsell reflected on the team’s performance, saying, “That’s the sport. That’s what’s unpredictable about it, and that’s why you turn the page every single day.”
